We’re all willing to pay an extra penny to make sure that our fur babies have the best food available. When our dog or cat has allergy issues, it’s even more important to make sure that the food we’re using is a limited ingredient novel protein. For some animal lovers, venison has been the solution for their pets at mealtime, but the venison price has been on the rise.
Unfortunately, due to a shortage in herds in New Zealand, the venison price soared recently here in America. Companies paid a much higher price to get the meat and then had to roll the increases into their product costs. As a consumer, you may be feeling the pinch the next time you try to stock up on food for your dog or cat.
What can you do?
If you don’t want to switch your pet’s food, you can continue to pay for the venison, knowing that the venison price will come down again once the costs out of New Zealand drop. New Zealand farmers are in the process of increasing their herd sizes. If you would prefer to pay less now for your food, consider switching your pet to kangaroo cat food or kangaroo dog food. Kangaroo and venison share many of the same benefits, such as:
- both are a novel protein, which helps many pets with allergies or sensitive stomachs
- both are high in protein and low in fat, helping to maintain your pet’s weight
- both contain natural CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid), which aids the immune system and is an anti-inflammatory agent
Feeding your dog or cat the ideal limited ingredient novel protein doesn’t have to cost more. If your pet loves venison, chances are good he or she will love kangaroo and you’ll love paying less for a healthy, happy pet.
